š¤ Why I Write Growly, Over-the-Top, Sweet-for-Her Heroes
Why do you write your heroes the way you do?
Hey Pack! š¾
One of the questions I get asked most often is: why do you write your heroes the way you do?
If youāve read my books, you know my male main characters tend to share a few traits:
Theyāre Alpha to the core šŗ
Over-the-top growly, protective, and sometimes even morally gray š„
But when it comes to her, theyāre sweet, vulnerable, and completely undone š
Why do I write them this way? Simple: because theyāre fun. And because, as readers, we love them. These men give us the ultimate fantasy fulfillment and the most epic happily-ever-afters we can dream of.
šŗ Why So Alpha?
For me, it all comes down to fantasy fulfillment. In real life, we juggle bills, commutes, dishes, deadlines ā all the stuff that wears us down. But when we open a romance novel? We want escape.
Thatās where the Alpha MMC comes in. Heās larger than life, intense, impossible to ignore. He has ātouch her and d*eā energy that makes you feel safe, desired, and claimed in the most delicious way.
Itās not about realism. Itās about creating the most epic love story we can imagine ā a hero who will fight the world (or fate, or a mobster, or a curse) just to keep his heroine safe and adored.
š Sweet for Her
But hereās the secret sauce: as OTT and growly as my heroes can be, they are always sweet for their heroine. That tenderness, that vulnerability, that heart-melting devotion? Thatās where the romance lives.
Because whatās better than a hero who can:
Burn down kingdoms š„
Break every rule š
Growl, bite, and command šŗ
But also turns into a total marshmallow of devotion for the woman he loves?
That contrast is everything.
š¹ The Happily Ever After Promise
At the end of the day, I write romance for one reason: the promise of a Happily Ever After.
When you pick up one of my books, I want you to know youāre going to get:
The fantasy of the ultimate book boyfriend
The heat, the angst, the āoh no, will they make it?ā tension
And then, the most satisfying, heart-squeezing, soul-deep HEA possible
Because we all deserve that feelingāthe assurance that no matter how messy the journey, love wins. Always.
Now, let me introduce a few of my favorites:
šŗ Rafe Maccon ā Charleyās Christmas Wolf
An Alpha Wolf desperate to find his fated mate by a certain date, or risk losing his position. Rafe is commanding, growly, and, but underneath all that Alpha swagger is a man terrified of losing everything heās meant to protect. When his Guard kinda kidnap Charley and bring her to his home, his fierce devotion and vulnerable longing turn him into the kind of book boyfriend whoāll fight to the end for love.
š Keeton Gray ā Shifter Mountain
A solitary, wounded soldier who doesnāt believe heās worthy of redemption. Keeton embodies that broken Alpha energy we canāt resist. Itās only when he meets the one that his walls begin to crumble, and we see the tenderness and devotion heās been hiding all along. He proves that even the fiercest warriors deserve love and healing.
š Castor Falk ā The Dragonās Treasure
Castor is my ultimate cinnamon roll Dragon. A total fish out of water! Heās sweet, earnest, a little awkward, but the minute he meets his fated mate? His insta-love possessiveness is off the charts. That combination of soft heart and unshakable devotion makes him unforgettable.
š Avail Leeds ā Marked by the Devil
His promised one literally falls into his arms, and from that moment on, he refuses to let her go. Avail is relentless, obsessive, and deeply protective ā but itās not just about control. His entire world shifts when he finds his fated mate, and nothing else matters. He embodies that touch-her-and-d*e energy I love writing.
š¤ Max Leeds ā Cowboy Devilās Embrace
Availās cousin, Max, is a different breed of Alpha. Tasked with running his New Jersey ranch to keep his fortune, he doesnāt expect to stumble into love. But when a devilishly good baker crosses his path? Game over. Watching this city slicker turned rancher fall for his fated mateācomplete with growls, stubbornness, and reluctant sweetnessāis pure romance magic.
⨠So, Why Do I Write Them This Way?
Because itās fun.
Because we love them.
Because thereās nothing more satisfying than watching a man who could conquer kingdoms or crush enemies completely lose his mind over one woman.
At the heart of it all, these stories are about fantasy fulfillment. Real life is messy, complicated, and rarely gives us perfect happy endings. But in romance? We get to experience the growls, the obsession, the dramaāand then the epic HEA that makes it all worthwhile.
Thatās why I write these heroes. Because they give us what we crave most: passion, devotion, and the promise that love always wins.
Magic, mayhem, and matesāitās what I do.
Happy reading!
