On Inspiration (and the Best Onscreen Kisser Ever)
One of the questions I get asked a lot is: Where do you get your inspiration?
Where does my inspiration come from?
The truth? From everywhere.
A song lyric.
A random sentence.
A scent drifting past.
Even a memory I haven’t thought about in years can spark an entire scene.
But here’s my confession—while I don’t usually borrow plots from movies or television, I absolutely borrow characters. Their mannerisms, their energy, their magnetic pull.
And if we’re talking about inspiration for a romantic hero (or antihero)…well, I have to give credit where it’s due.
✨ James Spader. ✨
Maybe it’s because I grew up in the 80s, when he often played those deliciously morally gray bad guys. And let’s be honest—who doesn’t secretly love a bad boy now and then?
Fast forward to more recent years, when I binged The Blacklist. Let me tell you, I was elated (and a little shocked) to discover that this man still has it. Time may pass, appearances may change, but James Spader still delivers some of the most intense, romantic, mind-blowing onscreen kisses I’ve ever seen.
So where do I get inspiration for my writing? Everywhere. But when it comes time to write a kiss that makes knees weak and hearts race? James Spader is the man.

So, tell me, who’s your go-to for kissing scene inspirations?
