Behind the Scenes: Writing is Work (And It’s Not Always Glamorous) 💻☕
Every writer has their own method. Their own process of research, fact-checking, world-building, character development, and plotting (or pantsing). But here’s the thing—it doesn’t matter how you do it.
It all takes work.
I hear the silliest things when people find out I’m a writer—especially when they discover I write romance. Suddenly, they look at me like I spend my days interviewing Casanovas or hanging out in lingerie shops for “inspiration.” (I mean, I do a lot in the name of research, but let’s not get carried away! 😂)
Writing isn’t lounging on a chaise waiting for the muse to strike. It’s putting your butt in the chair, fingers on the keys, and getting the words down even when your brain wants to do literally anything else.
It’s revising a scene for the tenth time, trying to make sure that plot twist actually twists, or double-checking that the moon phase matches your werewolf’s transformation schedule. (Yes, really.)
Writing is work. Hard work.
But it’s also worth every second of it.
You’ve probably heard that saying, “Dress for the job you want.” Well, I say own the job you already have.
And yeah, writing is more than a job to me—it’s a calling. So when people ask me, “What do you do?” I never hesitate. I say, “I’m a writer.” Because that’s who I am.
When people ask me for indie author tips, my number one piece of advice is always this:
👉 Treat it like the job it is.
Respect yourself like the professional you are. It doesn’t matter if you’ve written one book or a thousand, if you’ve hit publish or not—if you’re writing, then you’re a writer.
Period.
So drop the “kinda sorta maybe one day” talk. Own it. Respect it. And you’ll find that making time for your craft gets easier—because when you treat writing like a real job, you give yourself permission to do the real work it takes to be one.
Keep going, writers. You’ve got this. 🖤

P.S. Be honest—what’s the funniest or most ridiculous thing someone’s ever said to you about being a writer? I’ve heard some gems, and I bet you have too. 😂
