Behind the Scenes: Why I Love Writing Holiday Romance
Let me tell you a secret—
I am utterly powerless against holiday romance.
I blame childhood me, who spent December glued to every holiday cartoon ever created. Frosty, Rudolph, Heat Miser, Snow Miser, all the stop-motion chaos… you name it. I watched it. Repeatedly. And adult me? Oh, I absolutely still fall victim to those corny Hallmark movies we all claim we don’t watch. (It’s fine. We can lie to everyone else—but we know the truth. 😏)
There’s just something magical about this time of year.
Something that makes hope feel bigger, love feel brighter, and happily-ever-afters feel inevitable.
And that’s exactly why I adore writing holiday romance.
Behind the scenes, when I sit down to draft a holiday book, I feel like I’m stepping into a warm, glowing snow globe. I get to play with all the nostalgic tropes that made me fall in love with romance in the first place:
🎄 Snowed-in strangers who become so much more
🎁 The grumpy loner whose icy heart melts—just a little, then all the way
✨ Fated mates finding each other under twinkle lights
🔥 That irresistible holiday tension: one cabin, one blanket, two people pretending they’re not secretly dying for a kiss
🧣 The soft, quiet moments—hot cocoa, crackling fireplaces, shared secrets, second chances
Writing holiday romance feels like returning to the classics, the comfort food of storytelling. It’s the one season where we actually want the clichés. We crave them. Hallmark built an empire on that truth. And honestly? Good for them.
Because holiday romance isn’t about being surprising.
It’s about being satisfying.
It’s about reminding ourselves that joy is allowed, love is possible, and magic—real, emotional magic—is still out there if we’re open to it.
So every year, I come back to it.
The lights.
The tropes.
The warm fluff with a hint of spice that makes your cheeks warm even more than the fireplace.
And the kind of love story that wraps around you like a soft blanket when the world feels cold.
If you’re reading my holiday romances, just know:
you’re getting a piece of my nostalgia, my joy, and all the sparkly magic I grew up believing in.
