š§ Behind the Scenes: Inside the Mind of a Genre-Hopping Writer
I know I've done a similar post but who knows where it is and since I met a lot of people recently at places like BookCon, I've been getting some questions...
Okay, so youāve heard of mood readersā¦
Hi. Itās me. Iām a mood writer.
And honestly? Romance is the perfect sandbox for a brain like mine to run wild in. The genre is massiveālike, endless-subgenres massiveāand that means I get to play. A lot.
If youāve been reading my books, you already know my heart lives in Paranormal Romance (shifters, witches, fated matesāyes please). But lately? Iāve been stretching my creative muscles:
⨠Building up my contemporary romance
⨠Dabbling in romantasy
⨠Sliding into monster romance (because obviously š)
So how do I juggle all that?
Short answer: I donāt follow anyone elseās rulebook.
šÆ There Is No āRight Wayā
Let me say this louder for the authors in the back:
There is no single path to doing this.
As an indie author, I get to set the tone. I get to pivot. I get to experiment. I get to mess upāand then own it.
And yeah⦠Iāve made mistakes. Plenty.
But I think that accountability? That willingness to try, fail, adjust, and keep going? Thatās whatās kept me here.
Year 12, baby. š
š Advice Is Everywhere (Take What Fits, Leave the Rest)
There is so much advice out there.
Courses. Masterclasses. āYou HAVE to do this if you want to succeedā energy.
And listenāIāve taken courses. Paid ones. Free ones. All of it.
Some helped. Some⦠not so much.
What Iāve learned is this: š If it doesnāt fit you or your brand, you donāt have to follow it.
The real skill? Learning how to filter the noise.
š» This Is a Job (Even If You Love It)
āDo what you loveā is great in theory.
But letās be realāthis is still work.
This is my full-time job, and I treat it like one. Iām writing, planning, marketing, editing, plotting⦠constantly.
Because writer brain?
Yeah. That doesnāt turn off.
Ever. š
ā¤ļø So What Do I Actually Write?
At the end of the day, itās simple:
I write what I want to readā¦
ā¦and what I think you might love too.
Thatās the sweet spot.
Thatās the magic.
š āBut You Have So Many Booksā¦ā (I Got You)
I knowāwhen you look at my catalog, it can feel like a LOT.
Thatās why I try to make it easy to jump in:
š„ Sales + freebies happening all the time
š Permafree starters to get you hooked
š± Available on the Libby app through your library
š Wide platforms like Nook, Google Play, Kobo, and non-exclusive subscription services like Kobo Plus
š And of courseāBuy Direct (www.cdgorri.com ) from me to save big
š¬ Final Thought
Being a genre-hopping, mood-writing author might look chaotic from the outside, but for me?
Itās freedom. Itās creativity. Itās survival in this industry.
And honestly?
I wouldnāt have it any other way. š
Happy Reading!
del mare alla stella,
C.D. Gorri
