There is something absolutely magical—and a little surreal—about hearing someone else read words that once existed only inside your head.
As an author, I spend months with these characters. I hear their voices. I know their personalities, their quirks, their growls, their laughs, and exactly how I imagine them delivering certain lines.
Then an audiobook narrator steps into the booth and suddenly…
THEY’RE ALIVE.
And I have to ask my audiobook readers:
🎙️ Do You Love Hearing Narrators Bring a Story to Life?
A talented narrator doesn’t simply read a book. They perform it.
They give every character a voice. They bring emotion to the dialogue. They make those funny moments funnier, those heartbreaking scenes hurt a little more, and—YES—those spicy scenes hit completely differently when someone is actually saying those words out loud. 😳🔥
But one of the things readers might not realize is just how much work goes on behind the scenes before an audiobook ever reaches your ears.
🎧 Finding the Right Voice Is A LOT
For an indie author, producing an audiobook starts long before anyone presses RECORD.
First, we have to find narrators. And not just any narrators.
I want voices that fit my characters and my stories. I want narrators who understand the humor, romance, emotion, heat, and larger-than-life personalities my readers expect from a C.D. Gorri book.
Then there’s availability.
Scheduling.
Auditions.
Rates.
Contracts.
Production timelines.
Corrections.
Proofing.
Distribution.
And, of course, finding talented narrators who are willing and able to work with independent authors. THANK YOU to all the amazing narrators I’ve been privileged to work with.
Because here’s the part that isn’t always obvious from the reader side of things:
Indie authors are often footing the entire bill.
Audiobook production is expensive. Really expensive.
Unlike traditional publishing, where a publisher may be handling production costs, an indie author can be investing thousands of dollars into creating audio editions of their books.
And I do it because I know some of you LOVE audiobooks.
You’re listening while driving to work.
Cleaning the house.
Walking the dog.
Working out.
Cooking dinner.
Traveling.
Or lying in bed thinking, Okay, ONE more chapter… while your narrator proceeds to make that chapter approximately seventeen times hotter than you anticipated. 😂🔥
I love being able to give my readers another way to experience these worlds.

If you’ve listened to one of my audiobooks and enjoyed it, please consider leaving a review. It might seem like a tiny thing.
It isn’t.
Reviews help audiobooks get noticed. They give new listeners confidence to take a chance on an author they may not have tried before. They help algorithms recognize that people are listening and enjoying a title.
